Use the right guide
Always use the rules published for your conference and committee. Model UN procedures vary; not every familiar motion or term belongs in every format.
Understand the purpose
A procedure helps participants know who may speak, how proposals are discussed and how decisions are reached. It should support participation, rather than become a competition in terminology.
Prepare for the meeting
Learn how your committee recognises speakers, handles questions, organizes discussion and considers documents. Ask the chair about a point you do not understand.
Keep dialogue in view
Use the process respectfully. Listen to what other delegates are saying, explain your proposals clearly and look for a way to develop agreement where possible.
