A classroom diplomacy activity

A 40-minute starting point for research, dialogue and reflection.

An educator listening as students explain a land-restoration idea

Choose a shared question · 5 minutes

For a first activity, use a familiar question such as how a school can reduce avoidable waste. Invite students to identify who is affected and what information they need.

Explore perspectives · 10 minutes

Assign small groups different stakeholder perspectives: students, staff, families or facilities teams. Each group identifies a priority, a concern and one piece of evidence it would need.

Develop a shared proposal · 15 minutes

Groups share their perspectives, ask questions and develop one achievable proposal together. Encourage students to explain trade-offs and include quieter voices.

Reflect · 10 minutes

Ask what changed in students’ understanding, which evidence is still missing and what a responsible next step would be. Adapt the timing, reading and roles to the age group and classroom needs.
